Overview

Delegate voting is essential for Compound, as governance decisions impact protocol improvements, treasury management, and risk mitigation. This analysis request aims to provide a metrics-driven evaluation of delegate voting patterns during the past governance period. It will highlight the effectiveness of delegates in contributing to Compound’s key objectives, ensuring decisions are made in the protocol’s best interest.

This request will involve a structured analysis of delegate behavior, focusing on key governance metrics. Drawing on previous assessments of protocol governance, applicants should propose a standardized framework that tracks delegate participation, proposal outcomes, and their impact on key protocol metrics like security, liquidity, and treasury performance.

Performance Evaluation

This retrospective analysis will foster greater transparency in governance by quantifying the impact of delegate actions. By standardizing the performance evaluation of delegates, this report will help both the GSWG and the broader community better understand the effectiveness of governance proposals and delegate behaviors.

Impact Measurement

Rather than relying on qualitative perceptions of delegate activity, this analysis will offer measurable insights into how voting behavior correlates with the protocol’s success. By assessing metrics such as voting participation, delegate influence, and proposal outcomes, the report will help to establish a clear framework for evaluating governance contributions.

Key Questions to Be Answered in the Analysis:

  • Allocation Patterns: How evenly have governance votes been distributed across proposals? Have certain decision categories (e.g., risk management vs. protocol upgrades) received disproportionate attention?
  • Utilization: What are the most common patterns in delegate voting? Are tokens being deployed effectively in proposals that matter most to protocol health?
  • Success Metrics: Can we establish baseline success metrics for delegate actions? How do different proposal types correlate with protocol improvements?
  • Impact: What impact have delegates had on key protocol performance metrics? Can we attribute any significant shifts in metrics like liquidity or security to specific voting patterns?
  • Scalability: How can this analysis be designed for scalability, enabling similar evaluations in future governance periods?
  • Normalization: How can delegate performance be normalized, accounting for token size and proposal importance? What standardized methods can be used to compare delegate effectiveness across varying governance decisions?
  • Causality: Is there a clear causal relationship between delegate votes and observed changes in Compound’s key metrics?

Final Output

  1. Analysis: The analysis will be based on Compound’s suggested governance metrics and will evaluate delegate voting during the specified period. The findings should be presented in a concise report, highlighting key insights and trends.
  2. Dashboard: A public dashboard, such as Dune Analytics, will be created to make the analyzed metrics available in a transparent and easily interpretable format. The dashboard will track delegate participation, proposal outcomes, and their impact on protocol health.

Milestones

  1. Specification: The grantee will provide a detailed methodology for the analysis, outlining a step-by-step approach to evaluate delegate performance.
  2. Feedback Session: The GSWG will review and provide feedback on the proposed methodology before execution.
  3. Implementation: The grantee will conduct the analysis, providing both a written report and a live dashboard for real-time insights. The results should be digestible and actionable, offering tools for improving governance participation and efficiency. The grant will be paid after the milestones are complete.
