This will be an open discussion forum for individuals and organizations developing protocol improvement proposals or building applications and projects that integrate the protocol. @adam I was unable to listen into the live call today. Additionally, Discord asked me to do phone verification. This never happened before, so just wondering if Compound recently changed the verification level to “Highest” on Discord, which mandates phone verification. Even so, is phone verification required even to just listen into calls?
I understand that some servers on Discord would want more safety. However, Discord wants only mobile numbers, and haven’t explicitly stated anywhere how they will use those numbers or who they will share with. No details in FAQs, Privacy Policy or TOS. If identity verification is their true purpose they could use land line numbers with voice authentication. Mobile numbers are vulnerable to SIM swap attack, so Discord’s approach is concerning.
@adam thanks for your response, but it didn’t answer my question fully. I tried going back and forth several times with Discord if they share the mobile phone numbers with Servers, but I always got a standard template answer.
So couple of questions:
Does Compound Server currently receive or have access to mobile numbers used in phone verification?
If presently not, but in future this changes, will you (meaning, Discord’s Compound Server admins) notify the community that you will have access to phone numbers?
Sharing some id info is no big deal for me personally. But crypto community thrives on privacy, and secondly, mobile numbers are vulnerable to sim swap attacks. FBI recently revealed that these attacks are only going up, compared to previous years.
So, I request some clarity on these matters from you or someone responsible for Server admin role.
