CompoundChat: WhatsApp Distribution for African Markets - Working MVP

TL;DR: We built a WhatsApp bot that lets users supply/withdraw from Compound V3. MVP is live on Sepolia with verified transactions. Seeking community feedback before mainnet launch.

Proof:

What We Built

A WhatsApp interface to Compound V3. Users text commands like:

  • supply 10 USDC
  • withdraw 5 USDC
  • balance
  • send 0.01 ETH to 0x…

Non-custodial. Encrypted key storage. Works on any phone.

Why This Matters

Compound’s interfaces assume desktop access, Web3 wallets, and DeFi familiarity.

African reality:

  • 80%+ mobile-only users
  • WhatsApp is the primary internet for many
  • High crypto interest but DeFi feels inaccessible

Our approach: Meet users where they already are.

What’s Working (Sepolia)

  • Non-custodial wallet creation
  • Encrypted key storage (AES-256-GCM)
  • Compound V3 supply/withdraw
  • Balance checking (wallet + Compound positions)
  • ETH and USDC transfers

Distribution Strategy

We’re not building infrastructure. We’re building distribution.

Target: Existing crypto holders in Africa who keep stablecoins on exchanges earning nothing, want yield but find DeFi intimidating, and already use WhatsApp daily.

Channels:

  1. African crypto communities (Telegram/WhatsApp groups)
  2. University blockchain clubs
  3. Local crypto influencers
  4. Partnerships with African exchanges for user education

Simple message: Earn 4-8% APY on your USDC via WhatsApp instead of 0% on exchanges.

What We Need

  • Community feedback on the concept and UX
  • Beta testers (especially in African markets)
  • Guidance on mainnet deployment considerations

Team

Beacher - Cryptography and security (5+ years ZK/MPC)
Bunny - Backend and African market experience
Wisdom - Smart contract integration and DeFi tooling

We’re building this regardless of funding because we believe in financial inclusion. Would love the community’s thoughts.
