I wanted to share some thoughts and hopefully get a bit of clarity on where things stand right now with Compound. As we all saw, the Compound Labs account recently announced the upcoming (Compound Foundation), which could be a great thing for the future of the protocol. But at the same time, it feels like things have really quieted down. Activity in the community and on socials has dropped off a lot.
A big part of keeping engagement alive in the past came from AlphaGrowth. Since the Growth Program renewal didn’t go through, and with no updates from the Foundation besides the one public announcement, it feels like we’re in a bit of a holding pattern.
I’m still excited about what could come next, but I think the community needs more communication to stay connected and motivated. So I’m hoping we can get some answers to a few questions that I think a lot of us are wondering:
Some questions I have:
What’s the timeline for the Foundation to officially get started and share its plans?
Will the Foundation be taking over things like growth, marketing, and engagement that AlphaGrowth was handling?
Is there still a role for AlphaGrowth going forward, or are they stepping aside completely?
Are any new campaigns, partnerships, or projects in the works to help bring back activity?
How can the community stay in the loop about what the Foundation is working on?
What’s happening with the incentives and partnerships that were created through AlphaGrowth’s outreach with other protocols? Will those be continued or handed off to someone else?
Going Forward
I know a lot of effort went into the AlphaGrowth proposal and while it didn’t pass, they did help keep the community active and growing. If the Foundation is going to step in now, that’s great, but I think we just need to hear more about what’s happening next.
I believe there’s still a lot of potential here and a strong community ready to support the next phase. It would just help a lot to get some updates and open up the lines of communication again.
Looking forward to hearing from the team and others in the community.
The market has been smashed and is just starting to recover. Compound is not the only DAO using this time to reorganize and refine structures. Arbitrum is doing the same. On another note, it’s inappropriate to tag people who you believe control Compound and some of your questions are unrelated to Compound governance, of which this forum remains dedicated to.
I agree that the market has taken a big hit and it’s not the fault of any one project. And it makes sense that a lot of DAOs are using this time to regroup.
I think there might’ve been a bit of a misunderstanding. I was mainly talking about the drop in engagement on X, Reddit, and Discord. Since the Growth Program ended, and they were the ones running those channels, things have been less active. My post was just asking where updates will come from now and what the plan is for communication, especially with the Compound Foundation being announced with no further information.
On the tagging part, I hear you. I only tagged people who’ve been active and seemed to be involved not who I believe “Control” Compound. With little info out there, I figured people close to the DAO might know more.
I also get that not everything falls under governance, but I feel like this is the right place to ask questions and share concerns about where things are heading.
Appreciate you taking the time to reply and if you have any more thoughts I’d gladly read them.
The Growth Program has not ended according to their own dashboard and if it verifiably has by their own words/actions, seems they should not be requesting additional funds but getting prepared to compensate Compound for the month of work they were compensated but have not completed. Since I know they wouldn’t be satisfied with that, probably best is leaving it where it is. We’ll hear from those we may need at the greatest time i’m sure.
That’s fair, I might’ve been wrong about whether the Growth Program officially ended yet. Appreciate the correction.
But just to be clear, I’m not really trying to focus on AlphaGrowth or criticize them in this post about their work. I’ve noticed some of your replies seem frustrated with them over time, which is totally fair if that’s how you feel but I’m just trying to understand how this shift is going to work. Like, when will the Foundation take over the stuff AlphaGrowth was doing, and how will updates be shared going forward?
Thanks again for reply. Just trying to get a better sense of what’s coming.
@Jorstack I appreciate your question. The Compound Labs X account dropped the announcement about plans to form a Foundation in the last hours of AlphaGrowth’s third renewal proposal, which was poised to pass until the announcement killed it. To the best of my knowledge, not a word has been shared by Labs about the Foundation idea since this vote-altering announcement.
It is difficult to look at the timeline, the lack of follow-up on the Foundation concept, and not conclude that the post was crafted specifically to derail AlphaGrowth’s renewal. Readers of this forum will know that my views on AlphaGrowth’s performance are mixed at best (I’m not here to defend their renewal) and that I am not prone to reaching for conspiracy theories when simpler explanations will suffice.
In this case, however, I am truly struggling to see a simpler and more economically rational explanation than the possibility that another entity took advantage of a good working relationship with Labs to persuade Labs to announce plans for a Foundation at just the right time to derail the AlphaGrowth renewal. Labs has had plenty of time to back up their announcement and follow through with a proposal concept (even just a sketch of one) for the DAO to discuss. They have not done so.
If the timing of the announcement was truly unrelated to the AlphaGrowth vote, I would ask Labs to clarify how it came to be that the announcement was made at that particular time and what publicly shareable actions Labs has taken between then and now to advance the concept.
